Environmentalists Deploy Group Of Children To Stop Trumps Assault On Regulation
Two children sued the Trump administration Monday to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from cutting Obama-era regulations on air pollution, Reuters reports.
The Clean Air Council (CAC) environmental group is backing the suit to protect the 2015 Clean Air Act and prevent President Donald Trump from discarding more regulations and 'increasing the frequency and/or intensity of life-threatening effects of climate change,' the suit says according to Reuters.
'The United States has experienced a steady increase in extreme weather events caused by climate change, as exemplified most recently by the devastating impact of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and the October California wildfires,' the CAC said in a statement.
The EPA announcedin October that Administrator Scott Pruitt would repeal the 'so-called Clean Power Plan' and 'facilitate the development of U.S. energy resources and reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens associated with the development of those resources.'
The children bringing the suit, only identified by their initials in the lawsuit, say they are both suffering from the effects of climate change. One was a victim of Hurricane Sandy and the other has asthma, according to the Washington Examiner.
'We will not stand idly by while President Trump and his agencies raze crucial environmental protections, ignore climate science, dispute well-documented facts and force future generations of Americans to suffer the consequences of this administration?s reckless choices and ignorant policies,' CAC Executive Director Joseph Minott said according to the Washington Examiner.
